Compulsive Crying

I watched a friend recently have a drunken conversation with another friend's dog. He was trying to explain to the dog that he didn't want to be friends anymore, he didn't deserve anyone's friendship, and that the dog should stop trying to cheer him up. The dog sat there, head cocked, trying to figure out what was happening. The dog then trotted off and then returned with a toy. Dogs do not understand pity parties.

I tried to explain the hilarity of the conversation to my husband the next day but could hardly get past the first sentence without tears welling up uncontrollably. My husband started laughing at me and knew what the story must have been. He knows I can't handle scenes in movies where a person sends off a trusted animal friend and the animal doesn't understand and tries to follow. I can't even describe the scenes without my throat choking up.

I've seen all kinds of awful things. Injuries and abuse that I should cry about, situations where tears might be appropriate or even healthy. I don't quite understand it.
